Winter Skin Care

Winter is the season for the Water Element a time for inward reflection, rest and restoration. It is also the most difficult season to keep the skin supple and nourished. Natural skin care can nourish, soothe, and correct any imbalance the skin's pH. Look radiant, youthful and enjoy a natural healthy glow.

Thank you to our clinical aromatherapy mastery students who have contributed some fantastic formulations of facial skin care products.

Almond Facial Scrub

Contributed and formulated by Jaynee Carnall, clinical aromatherapy mastery program Graduate from Helotes, TX.

Makes @ 2oz.

In a 2 oz. plastic or glass jar, mix together:

  • 1 TBSP finely ground raw almonds

  • 1 TBSP finely ground raw oats

  • 2 tsp. brown sugar Then add, the following essential oils:

  • 3 drops of Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) ​

  • ​2 drops of Geranium (Pelargonium graveolens)

Mix 1 tsp. of Almond Facial Scrub with a little warm water or hydrosol to create a paste. Apply to the whole face in a small circular, upward motion for 5 mins. Rinse clean, tone and then moisturize the skin.​ Speculative result: The removal of dead epidermal facial skin cells through exfoliation resulting in smoother and softer skin, cleans follicles to prevent bacteria from causing blemishes, increased blood flow and circulation to the skin bringing important nutrients to these skin cells creating a renewed facial complexion. *Precaution(s): Not for use for children under 10 years old, Not for sensitive skin or rosacea skin conditions, Avoid contact with the eyes, Avoid until 3rd trimester of pregnancy. ​Facial Spritzer

Makes 1oz.

In a 1 oz. amber glass spray bottle, mix together:

  • 1/2 oz. organic Aloe Vera Gel (Aloe barbadensis)

And the following essential oils:

  • 3 drops Cape Chamomile (Eriocephalus punctulatus)

  • 2 drops​ Neroli (Citrus aurantium var. amara)

  • 2 drops Ho Wood (Cinnamomum camphora)* A sustainable replacement for Rosewood (Aniba rosaeodora) essential oil.​

Shake well, and then add:

  • 1/2 oz. Lavender Hydrosol (Lavandula angustifolia)

Use after cleansing the face and before applying the radiant complexion serum below. It can also be applied during the day as a refreshing fragrant interlude.

Speculative result(s): Hydrates and soothes dry skin. Relaxing and calming to the nervous system.​ *Precaution(s): Avoid use with history of ragweed allergy. * *When using essential oils always review the precautions.

Radiant Complexion Serum

Contributed and formulated by Amy S. Morin, clinical aromatherapy mastery program student from Columbus, MT

Makes @ 2 oz. In a 2 oz. amber glass bottle, mix together:

  • 1 TBSP. Rosehip (Rosa mosqueta) seed infused oil

  • 1 TBSP. Kukui Nut (Aleurites moluccana) oil

  • 1 TBSP. Camelia Seed (Camellia sinensis) oil

  • 1/2 tsp. Calendula (Calendula officinalis) infused oil

Then add, the following essential oils:

  • 6 drops Helichrysum (Helichrysum angustifolium)

  • ​5 drops Carrot Seed (Daucus carota)

  • 2 drops Geranium (Pelargonium graveolens)

  • 2 drops Neroli (Citrus aurantium var. amara)

  • 1 drop Frankincense (Boswellia carterii)

  • 2 drops Vetiver (Vetiveria zizanioides)

Shake well and then apply 2-4 drops after cleansing the face and using the facial spritzer.

Speculative result(s): Healing, nourishing, toning and regenerating to the skin surface and individual skin cells. The essential oils have properties proven to improve skin tone and elasticity for mature or dry skin by stimulating the production of new cells and useful as an effective treatment to deter and slow wrinkles.

*Precaution(s): Not for use during pregnancy.
