Using aromatherapy rollerball blends can be an easy way to use aromatherapy throughout the day to uplift energy, reduce pain, and create a balance of the bodymind.

Some therapeutic benefits and applications of a rollerball can include:

·      Reducing neck pain: apply on either side of the cervical vertebra and along the base of the occipital bone, the bottom of the skull.

· Reducing stress and anxiety: apply to the upper chest, shoulders, and temples (only if the essential oils are not skin irritants).

·      Reducing joint or back pain: apply to specific areas as needed.

·      Working on specific acupressure points to reduce respiratory congestion: apply on acupressure points Lung 1, 5, and 9. Use the Full Breath roller ball blend below to work on these points as well.

Lung Acupressure Meridian
Lung Acupressure Meridian

 Full Breath Aromatherapy Roll-on Blend

Add the following to a 10ml glass roll-on bottle: Carrier Oil: 9mls Jojoba Oil (Simmondsia chinensis)

Essential Oils:

· 7 drops Balsam Fir Absolute (Abies balsamea)- the absolute is a sweeter and richer aroma than the steam-distilled oil.

· 6 drops Virginia Cedarwood (Juniperus virginiana)

· 5 drops Black Spruce (Picea mariana)

Shake well and use under the scapula, upper chest, upper back, and the Lung acupressure points 1, 5, and 9, or the entire meridian shown above.

Precautions: This is a 3% dilution blend and should be reduced to 0.5-1% during pregnancy and for children (to be used only for children over 5 years old).

The branches of coniferous trees resemble the structure of the human respiratory system, and their shape, along with the needles, is akin to a scrub brush. In harmony with its structure, these trees can be used for clearing congestion in the respiratory, circulatory, lymphatic, and emotional systems.

"Tree" essential oils and hydrosols are terrific for opening the respiratory system this time of year. The limbs of the trees are similar in structure to the bronchioles of the respiratory system.

Pain-Reducing Aromatherapy Roll-on Blend

Add the following to a 10ml glass roll-on bottle: Carrier Oil: 9mls Calendula (Calendula officinalis) OR Arnica (Arnica montana)*  Essential Oils:

· 7 drops Lavender (Lavandula officinalis)

· 6 drops Helichrysum (Helichrysum italicum)

· 5 drops Copaiba (Copaifera langsdorffii)

Shake well and apply to affected areas to reduce inflammation. When not in use, it is best to refrigerate to extend the shelf life.

Precautions: Do not use arnica oil* on any open wounds or cuts. This is a 3% dilution blend and should be reduced to 0.5-1% during pregnancy and for children (to be used only for children over 5 years old).

Essential oil dilution ratios for topical blends:

• 0.5-1% dilution = Six drops of essential oil per one-ounce carrier oil. Use for children, elders, during pregnancy, and individuals with weakened systems and/or sensitivities.

• 2% dilution = Twelve drops of essential oil per one-ounce carrier oil. Use for general, whole-body massage.

• 3% dilution = Eighteen drops of essential oil per one-ounce carrier oil. Use for localized massage, acute conditions, and those with higher metabolisms.
